EEM Reader

Ephesians Every Month Reader
Current .NET Version: 1.0.0

Current Java Version: 1.00
Download (All platforms)

From time to time on this blog, I like to point out pieces of free software that I consider to be of use or interest to my readers. Some of you will know that I am a professional software developer myself, so this time the software is my own.

EEM Reader is designed to be a small lightweight application to help anyone who is interested in reading through Ephesians Every Month. It displays the text of the current daily reading in your choice of version. It will automatically update, and can be configured to pop up from the taskbar when a new reading is received. Just read the text and then minimise again - how much easier could it be?

The .NET version is for Microsoft Windows XP only (My apologies to all discerning OS users!). Requires .NET Framework 2.0. Written using SharpDevelop.

The Java version should work on any platform [I have only tested it on Windows and Linux]. It requires the Sun JRE (Java Runtime Environment)

This is brilliant Chris, many thanks. I take it that to get the daily update the programme needs to remain running in a minimised form? I note that when I do close it I can't find it on the Start/Programmes menu and have to 're-install' it from my desk top where I originally downloaded it. No doubt doing something wrong..., but enjoying it none-the-less! God Bless you Chris for your sharing heart.

Thanks Kev. You can decide how to use it. If you are going to launch it manually each day, then you don't need to keep it minimised - it will get the new reading each time it starts. I know not everyone keeps their computer on 24/7 like me! But if you do, just minimise it, and under "Options" tick "Popup new reading" and it will do just that.

The program actually doesn't need to be installed as it is a standalone file that runs by itself (with the .NET framework) So just launching it from your desktop is fine.

If you want it in your Start Menu, either right click on the EEM Reader and "Pin to Start Menu" or right click over the "Start" of the Start menu and select "Open all users" You can then create a new folder and drag the EEM Reader in there. It will then be available from Start->Programs in the usual way.

Fantastic idea Chris :)
I'm on Windows XP and I get an error when I try to run the program though.

"The application failed to initialize properly (0x0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application."

Any ideas?

Thanks, James.
I've done a quick google for your problem, and it seems to be caused by a bad or missing install of the .NET framework. Try (re)installing .NET 2.0. The link is at the bottom of the original post.
