Blessed are the geek...

Here's a little test. Look at the image below. If you think it is cool or amusing - you are one of us, brother!

...don't be ashamed, be proud! Blessed are the geek! This is a day when the richest man in the world is a geek. No company can survive without its own team of geeks. Geeks are now well paid and respected members of society, no longer just spotty lovelorn teenagers who never leave their bedroom.

I visited a friend's house last night and on his fridge he had spelled in fridge magnets the words: "gentoo" and "ubuntu" -- Respeccct!!

So calling all fellow geeks -- confessional time: What is the geekiest thing you have ever done? Make me proud!

Not being a geek I will be unable to contribute to this, but look forward to reading (but not expecting to understand a word)all you come up with.

I have wired my house with network cable (20 sockets at last count I think) It is intended to use it for non-computer related things, aswell, such as a low voltage switching system (particularly for outside lights etc) with electronic switches.

Now I just need to run some more network cable down to my garden shed for some reason... :-D

(I have a very understanding.. err, I mean, patient wife ;-))

oh and I can web browse to my video recorder (TIVO Hard disk recorder actually) to set things up to record from anywhere on my network or even from anywhere on the Internet. It can also be configured to email you a list of what it will be recording today, but I haven't done that... ...yet

Tim, you da man!!

Where shall I start?

I guess writing my own Pacman game has to score quite highly... I have read several manuals on computer languages all the way through... taught myself AMOS, Blitz Basic, C, C++, HTML, Perl, Java, Javascript, PHP, Python... salvaged a scrap PC my dad was getting rid of, installed Linux on it and now use it as a server for firewall, DHCP, NTP, Squid proxy cache, MySQL, Apache HTTP with PHP and WebDAV, and Subversion...

But I think the highpoint of my geekdom (or rather the low point) is going to a local premier of a Star Trek movie in the American Midwest, where all the back row of the theatre were dressed as Klingons... and half the audience rose in a standing ovation when the Enterprise destroyed an alien ship... that was too much! even for me!

by the way: go to http://www.innergeek.us/ and take the "geek test". Find out how much of a geek you really are; then depending on your perspective, take pride in how high or how low your score is.

My rating was "20% = Geek" Which I'm happy with; it's high enough without being too high: there are geeks and then there are geeks...

Did the geek test (and had come to your blog to look for something else!) and scored 18%. I must say that had I not done a Science degree I would have scored a lot less, but then maybe just having chosen a science degree makes me geeky!

I'd love to see what Tim would score!

Well initially only a disappointing 23% (Geek), but after double checking (and correcting) my answers. I got a healthy(?) 28% which puts me at "Total Geek" which fits just about right ;-)

Only 10%!! You are all geeks :)

When the final episode of Star Trek the Next Generation was broadcast I drove (that is had my Dad drive me and some friends) to Toronto (biggest city in Ontario) to watch it on the JUMBOTRON (the big screen in the baseball stadium). During this time I was wearing a T-Shrit with technical drawings of the enterprise on it.

I also felt the need to correct one of my pals who misused the word "ironic" during his best man toast at his brother's wedding.

I know that a chickadee (do you have these in the UK?) can expand its brain size during the winter...and feel compelled to tell everyone I know when I see a chickadee!

But only scored 26.2% on the geek test!

P.S. Further proof is that I reposted this when I saw that I had missed an apostrophe!

4.5% geek (the test actually called me a 'poser'). Probably more of a nerd than a geek...
